This page explains, in plain English, what information this site collects when you visit, why, and what control you have over it. m0use Mods is a small, independent site about video game mods, and we try to collect as little about you as possible.
The short version
- We don’t ask you to create an account to read this site.
- Our web server keeps standard technical logs, like almost every website does.
- Cookies may be set by this site and by any analytics or advertising partners we use.
- Embedded videos and social posts come from other companies, and those companies have their own privacy rules.
- Tools on this site run in your browser where we say so, which means what you enter stays on your device.
- We do not sell your personal data.
Who “we” are
When this policy says “we”, “us” or “this site”, it means m0use Mods at m0use.net. We are an independent content site, not a large company. If you have a question about your data, use the contact options listed on this site and we’ll do our best to help.
Information collected automatically
Server logs
When your browser loads a page, our hosting setup records basic technical details. This is normal for any website and helps keep the site running and secure. A typical log entry can include:
- Your IP address
- The date and time of the request
- The page or file you requested
- The referring page, if your browser shares it
- Your browser type and operating system (the “user agent”)
- Whether the request succeeded or produced an error
We use this to fix broken pages, understand load on the server, and spot abuse such as spam bots or attacks. We don’t use server logs to build a profile of you as a person.
Analytics
We may use an analytics service to see which pages are popular, how people find the site, and whether something is broken on certain devices. Analytics tools usually work by setting cookies or similar identifiers in your browser and collecting information like pages viewed, time on page, approximate location (generally at the country or city level) and device type.
We look at this information in aggregate. We are interested in “this guide got a lot of visits from mobile users”, not in what any single person did.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored in your browser. Some are set by this site directly, and some are set by third parties whose services we use.
| Type | What it does | Set by |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Remembers basic preferences, such as a dismissed notice or your cookie choice | This site |
| Analytics | Measures visits and how pages are used | Analytics providers we may use |
| Advertising | Shows ads and measures how they perform; some may be personalised | Advertising partners we may use |
| Embedded content | Supports videos or social posts embedded on a page | The platform hosting that content |
Managing cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Every major browser lets you clear existing cookies, block third-party cookies, or block all cookies. Blocking essential cookies may stop small features from working, such as remembering a choice you made. Blocking analytics and advertising cookies won’t stop you reading anything on this site.
Where the law in your area requires it, we will ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies, and you can change that choice later.
Advertising
This site may show ads to help cover hosting and running costs. If we work with an advertising partner, that partner may use cookies or similar technology to:
- Show ads based on the page you’re reading
- Show ads based on your interests, if you have allowed this
- Limit how often you see the same ad
- Measure whether ads were seen or clicked
Advertising partners operate under their own privacy policies. Many large ad networks let you turn off personalised ads through their own settings pages or through industry opt-out tools. You can also use your browser’s privacy settings or a content blocker.
Embedded content from other sites
Some pages include content hosted elsewhere, such as YouTube videos, social media posts, or images and widgets from other platforms. Embedded content behaves the same way as if you had visited the other website directly.
That means those platforms may:
- Collect data about you
- Set their own cookies
- Track your interaction with the embedded content, especially if you’re logged in to their service
We don’t control what these platforms collect. Check their privacy policies for details. If you’d prefer to avoid this, log out of those services before browsing, or use browser settings that block third-party content.
Tools that run in your browser
Some tools on this site are built to run entirely in your browser. When a tool says it runs locally, the information you type or upload is processed on your own device and is not sent to our server. Closing or refreshing the page clears it unless the tool clearly tells you it saves settings in your browser’s local storage, which stays on your device and which you can clear yourself.
If a tool ever needs to send data to a server to work, we will say so on that tool’s page.
Mod files and external downloads
This site writes about mods. Where we mention mod files hosted on other platforms, any download happens on that platform, under its terms and privacy policy. We don’t receive your account details or download history from those sites.
Information you choose to send us
If you contact us, for example by email or through a contact form, we receive whatever you include, such as your name, email address and message. We use it only to reply and to deal with your request. We don’t add you to a mailing list unless you clearly ask to be added.
How long we keep data
We keep data only as long as it’s useful for the reason we collected it.
- Server logs: kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted or rotated out. We may keep specific entries longer if they relate to an ongoing security issue.
- Analytics data: kept according to the retention settings of the analytics provider, which we set to a reasonable period rather than indefinitely.
- Messages you send us: kept while we’re dealing with your request, and deleted when we no longer need them.
- Cookies: each cookie has its own expiry date. You can delete them yourself at any time.
We do not sell your personal data
We don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that make the site work (hosting, analytics, advertising and similar), and only to the extent they need it to provide that service. We may also disclose information if the law requires it or if it’s necessary to protect the site or its visitors from fraud or abuse.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you rights over your personal data. Even where the law doesn’t require it, we’re happy to help with reasonable requests. You can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal data we hold about you
- Correct information that is wrong
- Delete your personal data
- Restrict or object to certain uses of it
- Withdraw consent you previously gave, such as for cookies
To make a request, use the contact options on this site. We may need to ask for some information to confirm the request is genuine. Keep in mind that a small site like this usually holds very little that can be tied to a named person. Server logs and analytics records generally can’t be matched to you without details such as your IP address and the time of your visit.
For data collected by third parties, such as advertising networks or embedded video platforms, you’ll usually get the fastest result by contacting them directly or using their own privacy controls.
You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country if you believe your data has been mishandled.
Browser privacy signals
Some browsers send signals like Global Privacy Control to say you don’t want your data sold or shared for advertising. Where the law recognises these signals and our partners support them, we aim to respect them.
Children’s privacy
This site is written for a general audience interested in game mods. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the minimum age set by the law where they live. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the site and the data it handles, including serving pages over HTTPS. No website can promise perfect security, but we keep what we collect to a minimum, which limits the risk in the first place.
Data handled in other countries
Our hosting and third-party providers may store or process data in countries other than the one you live in. Where that happens, we rely on those providers to follow the legal safeguards that apply to them.
Changes to this policy
If we add new features, start working with new partners, or the law changes, we’ll update this page and change the “Last updated” date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll make it clear on the site.
Contact
Questions about this policy or your data are welcome. Reach us through the contact options listed on this site.
