Best new Starfield mods this week (October 19 to 25, 2026)

Starfield screenshot

The best new Starfield mods for October 19 to 25, 2026 are led by Rebelember’s Modular Outfit System, MomoManbavaran’s Immersive Weapon Switching and baekordzn’s Starfield Freeze Fix. Rebelember released three of the week’s top four mods by endorsements. The rest of the list covers visible holsters, a virtual shop terminal, an armored pickup truck and a few small quality-of-life fixes.

Last checked: October 29, 2026. All endorsement and download counts were measured when we pulled the Nexus Mods data on October 26, 2026. They have moved since then.

What this week brought

The week was mostly about outfits and how your character carries guns. Four of the twelve mods deal with clothing or armor, and three of those target the VCO body. Two more change how weapons look when they’re not in your hands. If your Starfield character has been running around in the same flight suit since Neon, this is a good week to change that.

The other pattern is plumbing. Starfield Freeze Fix and Quasar Exchange won’t show up in screenshots, but you’ll notice them every session. Freeze Fix tackles hangs after menus and fast travel. Quasar Exchange lets you shop any vendor from a terminal, which is useful when your inventory is full of mod-added loot no vanilla merchant will take.

There’s also a heavy freight mission pack, an armored truck that fires rockets, and two small mods that make followers and civilian outposts feel less static. Nothing here is a total overhaul. That makes it a safe week to pick a few mods and slot them into an existing load order.

We left out anything adult, anything that works as an online cheat, and anything gambling-themed. None of the top twelve fell into those categories, so the list below is the real top of the week.

The numbers behind the list

Raw downloads favor whatever showed up first in the week. Endorsements are a better signal, but a mod with 1,500 downloads will nearly always collect more of them than one with 200. So we also worked out the endorsement rate: endorsements divided by downloads, as of the October 26 pull.

Mod Endorsements Downloads Endorsement rate
Modular Outfit System – VCO and Vanilla 58 1,567 3.7%
Immersive Weapon Switching 43 1,066 4.0%
Amara Armor by Jmenaru – VCO 39 561 7.0%
Quasar Exchange 37 844 4.4%
Holsters SFSE (Beta) 34 585 5.8%
Starfield Freeze Fix 28 909 3.1%
Roy’s Garage — The Expedition General (WIP) 28 427 6.6%
Followers Relax 19 264 7.2%
Cosmic Charms – Magazines 19 332 5.7%
Elegant Clothing – VCO – Refit 15 180 8.3%
Starfreight Logistics Missions 13 332 3.9%
Pets for NPC Civilian POIs 12 210 5.7%

The twelve mods totalled 345 endorsements and 7,277 downloads in their first few days. Rebelember’s three releases account for 134 of those endorsements and 2,972 downloads, about 39% and 41% of the totals.

Look at the bottom of the table too. Elegant Clothing – VCO – Refit has the lowest download count but the highest endorsement rate. That usually means a small, specific audience that got exactly what it wanted. Followers Relax and Amara Armor show the same pattern. Starfield Freeze Fix has the lowest rate, which is normal for fix mods: people install them, the problem goes away, and they forget to go back and endorse.

Modular Outfit System – VCO and Vanilla

Rebelember’s Modular Outfit System was the most endorsed new Starfield mod of the week, with 58 endorsements and 1,567 downloads at pull time.

What it does

The mod reworks Starfield’s outfit system using Bethesda’s own engine features, not a script-heavy replacement. It adds 379 new clothing items that you mix and match. You aren’t stuck with the vanilla approach where one outfit is one locked piece. The author describes it as lightweight and “creations friendly,” meaning it is built to sit alongside content from Bethesda’s in-game Creations menu.

Why it’s worth a look

Vanilla Starfield clothing is mostly all-in-one outfits. If you like the jacket on one and the trousers on another, you can’t combine them. A modular system fixes that properly, and 379 items is enough to give most characters a wardrobe that doesn’t repeat.

The “lightweight” claim matters. Outfit mods that run heavy scripts can add load and save bloat over a long playthrough. A mod built on engine-level systems is easier to keep installed for a 100-hour save.

Requirements

The title says there are VCO and Vanilla versions. Pick the one that matches the body you use. If you don’t run the VCO body, take the Vanilla version. The summary names no other hard requirements, but check the Requirements tab on the Nexus page before installing.

Modder's note

Install only one body version. Running both the VCO and Vanilla files gives you overlapping records and a load order that’s harder to debug later.

Immersive Weapon Switching – Holster your weapon when switching guns

MomoManbavaran’s mod took second place with 43 endorsements and 1,066 downloads.

What it does

In vanilla Starfield, when you swap weapons, the old one vanishes from your hands and the new one appears. With this mod installed, your character holsters the current weapon first, then draws the newly selected gun. It’s one animation step, but it removes one of the game’s most obvious “video game” moments.

Why it’s worth a look

This is a small change you notice dozens of times per hour. It works best for players who run a third-person camera or use Photo Mode a lot, where the vanishing gun stands out most. In first person it adds a short beat to weapon swaps that makes combat feel a little more physical.

There’s a trade-off. Any extra animation step makes swaps slightly slower than vanilla. If you play on high difficulty and swap mid-firefight constantly, give it a session before you commit.

Pairing it with Holsters SFSE

This mod handles the switching animation. Holsters SFSE (Beta), further down this list, handles showing the weapon on your body afterwards. They solve different halves of the same problem. Nothing in either summary flags a conflict, but both touch how weapons are presented, so install them one at a time and test in a safe area.

Amara Armor by Jmenaru – VCO

Rebelember’s second entry earned 39 endorsements from 561 downloads, a 7.0% endorsement rate.

What it does

This is a port of Jmenaru’s Amara armor to the VCO body. The mod page says it was ported with the author’s express permission, which is how ports should work. Jmenaru made the original armor. Rebelember did the VCO refit.

Why it’s worth a look

If you’ve built your load order around the VCO body, armor choice is limited to whatever has been refit for it. Every quality port widens that pool. The high endorsement rate suggests VCO users were waiting for this one.

Requirements

You’ll need the VCO body installed, since that’s what the armor is fitted to. The summary doesn’t say whether the original Amara armor mod is also required. Read the description and Requirements tab on Nexus before you install.

Quasar Exchange – Virtual Shopping Terminal

Rebelember’s third mod in the top four reached 37 endorsements and 844 downloads.

What it does

Quasar Exchange is a virtual shopping terminal. It lets you buy from and sell to any vendor in the galaxy from wherever you are. It also supports mod-authored virtual vendors, so other mod authors can set up shops that sell their mod-added items through the terminal.

Why it’s worth a look

Starfield’s loot loop pushes you back to cities constantly. You clear an outpost, fill your hold, and spend the next ten minutes fast travelling to sell. Quasar Exchange cuts that out. You’ll lose some of the trip-to-the-vendor rhythm, but many players will happily make that trade on a second or third playthrough.

The virtual vendor support is the more interesting part long term. Plenty of Starfield mods add weapons and gear that you have to get from the console or a hand-placed chest. A shared terminal that mod authors can hook into gives those items a proper in-game place to be sold.

Who should skip it

If you’re on your first playthrough and want the full intended experience, leave this one for later. Shopping anywhere removes a real constraint, and part of Starfield’s pacing comes from heading back to New Atlantis or Akila with a full cargo hold.

Holsters SFSE (Beta)

ScarecroOw’s holster mod picked up 34 endorsements and 585 downloads, with a 5.8% endorsement rate.

What it does

Holsters SFSE shows your holstered pistols and rifles on your character. It does this without using body slots and without replacing clothing or spacesuit meshes. That second part is the big technical win, because older approaches to visible weapons often meant swapping outfit meshes or taking an equipment slot. The mod includes adjustable placement and an experimental feature that displays favorited weapons.

Why it’s worth a look

Visible holsters are one of the most requested features in Bethesda games. A version that leaves your outfits and spacesuits alone stays compatible with far more clothing mods, including the outfit mods elsewhere on this list.

Requirements and caveats

The name tells you it’s an SFSE plugin, so you need the Starfield Script Extender installed and launched correctly. Many SFSE plugins also depend on Address Library for SFSE Plugins, so check the Requirements tab for that.

It’s labelled a beta and a work in progress. Expect placement to be off on some outfits and the favorites display to be rough in places. That’s fine for testing, but keep a clean save from before you installed it.

Before you install

SFSE plugins break when Starfield updates until SFSE and the plugin are updated too. If a Steam patch lands, expect this mod to stop working for a few days.

Starfield Freeze Fix

baekordzn’s fix mod had 28 endorsements and 909 downloads. Its download count was third-highest of the week, ahead of several mods with more endorsements.

What it does

The mod targets the base-game freeze that can happen after closing a menu or fast travelling. It also addresses freezes and crashes tied to:

  • DLSS
  • renodx-dlss5
  • OptiScaler with DLSS5
  • Background loading
  • Particle crashes
  • Mods that raise the ship-builder limit

The summary on Nexus is cut off after this list and says it fixes more, so read the full description for the complete set.

Why it’s worth a look

Freezes are the kind of bug that make people quit a modded playthrough. If you’ve hit a hang after closing a menu, you already know how frustrating it is. The mod also covers problems introduced by popular upscaler setups and ship-builder limit mods, which many heavily modded players run.

Who should install it

Install it if you’ve seen freezes after menus or fast travel, or if you run any of the upscalers or ship-builder mods listed above. If your game has been stable for months, test it on a copy of your save first. A fix mod for a problem you don’t have still adds one more thing that can go wrong after a patch.

Roy’s Garage — The Expedition General (WIP)

TheMightyBoltar’s vehicle mod collected 28 endorsements from 427 downloads.

What it does

The Expedition General is an armored muscle pickup you can use with your ship. The feature list is long for a work in progress:

  • REV-8-style switchable headlights
  • Vehicle Photo Mode poses
  • Working doors
  • A Dixie horn
  • Custom handling
  • A roof cannon that fires Deimog rockets

Why it’s worth a look

The REV-8 gave Starfield ground travel, but the vehicle roster is still thin. A second vehicle with its own handling and a roof cannon makes planet exploration feel different. The Photo Mode poses and working doors show this author cares about detail, not just a reskin.

Requirements

The summary says it requires the Deimog Creation, which makes sense given the rocket ammunition. You’ll need that installed through the in-game Creations menu before this mod will work properly. The WIP tag means features may change between updates, so read the changelog before you update mid-playthrough.

Followers Relax

Rhsims’s companion tweak reached 19 endorsements from 264 downloads, a 7.2% rate.

What it does

When you tell a follower to wait in vanilla Starfield, they stand in one spot until you come back. Followers Relax changes the vanilla wait function. Your active followers now sandbox in the immediate area: they idle, wander a short distance and interact with things nearby.

Why it’s worth a look

It’s a simple change that makes your ship and outposts feel lived in. Leave Sarah or Andreja waiting at your outpost and come back to find them doing something, not frozen like a mannequin. The author kept the scope small, which also keeps the conflict risk low.

Compatibility

The mod edits the vanilla wait behavior. Any other follower mod that changes wait packages or follower AI could fight with it. If you run a larger companion overhaul, load Followers Relax after it and test whether waiting followers behave as expected.

Cosmic Charms – Magazines

KennethIrons’s visual mod hit 19 endorsements and 332 downloads.

What it does

Cosmic Charms replaces the cover art on Starfield’s collectible magazines with original artwork. The author describes the styles as retro sci-fi, pulp adventure, glamorous heroines and bold futuristic designs.

Why it’s worth a look

Magazines are one of the few collectibles in Starfield that give permanent bonuses, so you’ll pick up a lot of them. Original cover art is a cheap way to make that hunt more fun to look at. It’s a texture-style visual change, so it should sit lightly in a load order.

Compatibility

Any other mod that retextures magazine covers will overwrite this one or be overwritten by it. Pick one. The summary doesn’t list requirements.

Elegant Clothing – VCO – Refit

SirJamesio’s refit had the smallest download count on the list, 180, but the highest endorsement rate at 8.3% (15 endorsements).

What it does

The mod refits Elegant Clothing for the VCO body. That’s the whole description, and it’s all you need: if you use VCO and like Elegant Clothing, this lets the two work together.

Requirements

The Nexus page lists two requirements: the original Elegant Clothing mod and the VCO body. Install both before you add this refit.

Why it’s worth a look

Refits are unglamorous work that keeps a body mod ecosystem alive. With Amara Armor and the VCO version of Modular Outfit System also arriving this week, VCO users got a solid batch of new wardrobe options in seven days.

Starfreight Logistics Missions

OumuamuaCreations’s quest mod earned 13 endorsements and 332 downloads.

What it does

Starfreight Logistics adds heavy freight contracts to the Mission Board. You haul cargo loads from small to massive, and rewards scale with cargo mass. Deliveries go to cities, settlements and star stations. The Nexus summary is truncated after “Built for ever,” so we can’t confirm how the description ends.

Why it’s worth a look

Vanilla cargo missions are easy to outgrow once you have a bigger ship. Rewards tied to mass give you a reason to build a real hauler and actually fill the hold. It also pairs well with ship-builder mods, since a bigger ship finally has a job.

Who it’s for

This one is for players who enjoy the ship-builder side of the game and want a money loop that isn’t combat or looting. If you mostly play Starfield as a shooter, skip it.

Pets for NPC Civilian POIs

jamesd444’s small gameplay mod picked up 12 endorsements and 210 downloads.

What it does

Friendly civilian points of interest get a chance to spawn one of Starfield’s vanilla pets. It’s a chance, not a guarantee, so you’ll see pets at some civilian sites and not others.

Why it’s worth a look

Procedural POIs are where Starfield feels most repetitive. A random pet is a small variation that breaks up that sameness. It uses vanilla pets, so there are no new assets to worry about.

Why these mods work together

On paper, most of this week’s list can share a load order. Here’s how the groups fit.

The wardrobe stack. Modular Outfit System, Amara Armor and Elegant Clothing Refit all add clothing. The VCO versions need the same body, so they share a foundation. Holsters SFSE avoids body slots and doesn’t replace clothing meshes, which is exactly why it should cooperate with outfit mods.

The weapon presentation pair. Immersive Weapon Switching animates the swap. Holsters SFSE shows the result on your body. Together they cover the gun’s full trip from your hands to your hip.

The economy loop. Starfreight Logistics gives you a new way to earn credits. Quasar Exchange gives you a new way to spend them, and to sell the loot you pick up along the way.

The background fixes. Starfield Freeze Fix, Followers Relax, Pets for NPC Civilian POIs and Cosmic Charms each change one narrow thing. Narrow mods rarely collide.

The vehicle is the outlier. Roy’s Garage depends on a Bethesda Creation, so it ties your Nexus setup to your Creations list. That’s fine, but you should know it before installing.

Mods that can break this setup

None of these summaries list a direct conflict with each other. That doesn’t mean they’ll never clash. These are the combinations to watch.

Risk Why What to do
Two body versions of the same outfit mod Duplicate records for the same items Install VCO or Vanilla, never both
VCO clothing without the VCO body Meshes won’t fit, clipping or invisible parts Install the body first, or pick vanilla versions
Holsters SFSE after a Starfield patch SFSE plugins break on version changes Wait for SFSE and plugin updates
Followers Relax plus a companion AI overhaul Both edit follower wait behavior Load Followers Relax later, then test
Two magazine retextures One overwrites the other Keep only Cosmic Charms or the other mod
Roy’s Garage without the Deimog Creation Missing required content Install Deimog from the Creations menu first
Old saves with a WIP mod removed Leftover references can cause bugs Keep a pre-install save

Safe install order

You can run every mod above through Vortex or Mod Organizer 2. Both support Starfield. If you’re still choosing between them, our guide to the best mod managers for PC games compares how each handles Bethesda load orders.

Install steps

  1. Back up your current save and note your game version.
  2. Install SFSE and confirm it launches.
  3. Install the VCO body if you want VCO clothing.
  4. Add Starfield Freeze Fix and test one session.
  5. Add clothing mods, then Holsters SFSE.
  6. Add Immersive Weapon Switching and test swaps.
  7. Add gameplay, quest and companion mods last.
  8. Install the Deimog Creation, then Roy’s Garage.

The reasoning behind that order is simple. Get your foundation stable first: script extender, body, then the freeze fix. If the game hangs after step four, you know the problem is in your base setup, not in the new outfits.

Clothing goes in before holsters so you can check holster placement against the outfits you actually wear. Weapon switching goes in after holsters so you can see both halves working.

Gameplay mods come last because they’re the easiest to test in isolation. Take a cargo contract, open the Quasar Exchange terminal, tell a follower to wait. If each behaves, you’re done.

Modder's note

Add one or two mods per session, not twelve at once. When something breaks, you’ll know which mod caused it, and you won’t spend an evening bisecting your plugin list.

Plugin and load order basics

In both managers, make sure every new plugin is actually enabled in the plugin list, not just installed. Starfield won’t load a plugin it doesn’t know about. Keep fix mods and frameworks near the top, content in the middle, and small tweaks like Followers Relax lower down so their edits win.

When you launch through SFSE, use the method your manager sets up. Launching the plain game exe skips the script extender, and Holsters SFSE will silently do nothing.

How this setup behaves on a modded PC

We can’t give you frame-rate numbers for this exact combination. Nobody has published benchmarks for these mods yet, and they’re only days old. What we can tell you is where the load comes from.

Clothing and armor mods mostly cost memory and loading, not frame rate. 379 new items from Modular Outfit System means more assets in the game, but you only render what’s on screen.

Holsters SFSE draws extra weapon models on characters. On your own character that’s trivial. The experimental favorites display could add more, so if you see stutter, turn that feature off first.

Starfield Freeze Fix targets stalls and hangs. If it works for your setup, the game should feel smoother around menus and fast travel, even if your average frame rate doesn’t change.

Roy’s Garage is the heaviest mod to run, since it’s a full vehicle with custom handling and a weapon. Test it on a busy planet before you trust it on a long drive.

The rest are close to free performance-wise.

If something breaks, do this

Symptom Likely cause Fix
Game crashes on launch SFSE version doesn’t match game version Update SFSE, or roll back if a patch just hit
Holsters don’t appear Game not launched through SFSE, or plugin outdated Launch via SFSE from your mod manager
Clothing is invisible or stretched VCO outfit without VCO body, or wrong version Install VCO or switch to vanilla files
Followers still stand still when waiting Another mod overrides wait behavior Load Followers Relax lower in the plugin list
Truck missing or broken Deimog Creation not installed or disabled Enable Deimog in the Creations menu
Freeze after closing a menu Base-game bug or upscaler conflict Install Starfield Freeze Fix and read its notes
Magazine covers look vanilla Another texture mod overwriting Remove the other magazine retexture
Game ran fine, now crashes after an update Steam patched Starfield Wait for mod updates; disable SFSE plugins meanwhile

If none of those fit, disable the most recent mod you added and load your pre-install save. If the problem goes away, report it on that mod’s Nexus Posts tab with your game version, mod manager and plugin list. Authors fix what they can reproduce.

When you should skip mods for now

Don’t install any of this right before a known Starfield update. SFSE plugins like Holsters SFSE stop working until they’re updated, and WIP mods can change their records between versions.

Don’t remove WIP mods mid-playthrough on a save you care about. Roy’s Garage and Holsters SFSE are both marked as works in progress. Adding them is easy. Removing them cleanly from an old save is not guaranteed.

On Xbox, these Nexus releases aren’t available. Console players get mods through Bethesda’s in-game Creations menu only, and none of this week’s list is confirmed as a Creation.

On achievements, expect Nexus plugin mods to disable them. Some PC players use achievement enabler SFSE plugins to restore them. That’s a single-player choice, but it’s one more SFSE plugin that can break after a patch.

Quick safe setup recap

  • Back up your save and note your Starfield version.
  • Install SFSE first, then the VCO body if you want VCO clothing.
  • Add Starfield Freeze Fix early so stability problems show up before you add content.
  • Install one body version of each outfit mod, never both.
  • Add holsters after clothing, and weapon switching after holsters.
  • Install the Deimog Creation before Roy’s Garage.
  • Add one or two mods per session and test each.
  • After a Steam patch, wait for SFSE and plugin updates.

Other weekly roundups

Starfield wasn’t the only Bethesda game with a busy week. If you play the older games too, our Skyrim mods this week roundup covers the same October 19 to 25 window for Special Edition, and our Fallout 4 list tracks that game’s top new releases on the same dates. For something away from Bethesda, we also covered the week’s new Cyberpunk 2077 mods.

FAQ

What was the most popular new Starfield mod from October 19 to 25, 2026?

Modular Outfit System – VCO and Vanilla by Rebelember. It had 58 endorsements and 1,567 downloads when we pulled the data on October 26, 2026, the highest numbers of any new release that week.

How were these mods ranked?

By endorsements on Nexus Mods for Starfield mods first released between October 19 and 25, 2026. Counts were measured on October 26 and will be higher now. We also show the endorsement rate to highlight smaller mods that people rated well.

Which of these mods need SFSE?

Holsters SFSE (Beta) is an SFSE plugin, so it needs the Starfield Script Extender. The other summaries don’t name SFSE as a requirement, but check each mod’s Requirements tab on Nexus.

Do I need the VCO body for the clothing mods?

You need it for Amara Armor by Jmenaru – VCO and Elegant Clothing – VCO – Refit. Modular Outfit System comes in both VCO and Vanilla versions, so you can use it without VCO.

Will Holsters SFSE work with Immersive Weapon Switching?

They handle different things: one shows holstered guns, the other animates the swap. Neither summary flags a conflict. Install them one at a time and test weapon swaps in a safe area.

Does Roy’s Garage need any paid content?

It requires the Deimog Creation, according to the mod’s summary. Install it through Starfield’s in-game Creations menu and check its listing there for any cost before you buy.

Can I use these mods on Xbox?

Not these Nexus releases. Xbox players can only install mods through Bethesda’s in-game Creations menu, and none of this week’s list is confirmed as a Creation.

Is Starfield Freeze Fix worth installing if my game is stable?

Only if you run the setups it lists, such as DLSS, OptiScaler with DLSS5, renodx-dlss5 or ship-builder limit mods. If you’ve never seen a freeze, test it on a copy of your save first.
